a new beginning

There is something so refreshing and renewing about a big move. A blank slate, a re-do if you will, a chance to take a step back and re-evaluate goals for yourself.
We have been in Beaver Creek for only a few days now, but I am feeling the need to get these thoughts and ideas down so that I can be reminded of them. I'm sure that once the novelty of the new home wears off, that I will be in need of some inspiration, and hopefully I will come back to this post as a way to help me keep on track.
It's beginning to feel like home here, which is so comforting after a busy summer of being away from own beds. Coffee in the morning at our dinning room table is so lovely. It's the little things that I am seeking and appreciating.
So far in just our first few days, we have been pretty busy. We had visitors come over for dinner (from the town 3 hrs down the road), had our neighbours come over for a playdate, and have taken some walks around town.
I've had a chance to go to the gym twice now, which is something that I am going to be making into a daily/weekly routine. I've made some homemade bread (even though I am seriously considering giving up wheat-at least 75% of the time) and I've prepared all  of our meals home made. It feels good to be getting back into some kind of rhythm.
One thing that I would really like to incorporate back into our days is more arts and crafts time. This is something that sadly I have not done as much as I had hoped to, but I am ready to get back into it.
For me, arts and crafts go very well with the colder months (goodness knows we have a lot of that here in the Yukon) and so I am working on a way to carve out some creative time for all of us, every day. Drawing, painting, collaging, colouring, stamping, crafting ... it's what make me feel good.
I am also planning on building up a new sketch book once again. I'm hoping to use this opportunity (of living in such a small and quiet place), to get back to my art and creative side. I'll keep you posted on my progress.
So things here are okay so far. I know that there are going to be days where I'll need some kind of outlet, some way to escape and feel connected to the outside world. I have some strategies and ideas planned out for when I really need it, but for now, I am enjoying the fact that things are slow and simple.

you know you've slowed things down when there is time to make a pie!

  2. Happy to read that you are settling in with hope & happiness. You will do great Johanna, you have all the courage, inspiration and energy to succeed over there, as a "I" and with your family. Looking forward to discovering this part of the world with you and your adventures (only virtual for us!). Cannot wait for more pictures. It's always nice ones and your kids are beautiful. Be safe (cf. bears and wildlife ;-)

When the going gets tough... maybe you'll feel like Skyping?!

And you are right about "a blank slate, a re-do if you will, a chance to take a step back and re-evaluate goals for yourself"... I believe sometimes we do miss on such an opportunity... for regrowth... I have been "frozen" for too long I think! It is hard to create same... without moving.

Have a wonderful, wonderful time in Beaver Creek.
