Its amazing what one can discover if they just take the time to slow down. To just be.
For all the times that I've complained about living so far from the South, I have to say, I do not and will never miss the pace of life that you get from living down there.
Living up North has taught us a thing or two about slowing down, and for that I am truly thankful.
Instead of long commutes, we get 10 mins drives from either end in this town. Our big box shopping stores choices include the Canadian Super Store, Walmart, or Canadian Tire, that's it. We talk to and know our neighbours. And in less than 5 minutes, I can be on a trail with my little guy, where he can run and run, pick flowers, scavenge for wild strawberries, and be immersed in nature.
I do not miss the place where importance is placed on what kind or car you drive, or if you have the latest "so and so". To tell you the truth, I'm not sure that we could ever be happy again living in a big city.
I feel lucky to spend my days with my little ones, going on adventures and learning new things. I feel lucky to stop and smell the sweet delicious clover or to taste the tiny and zingy wild strawberries that grow close to our home.
Our days are simple and I'm learning what a gift that is. Slowing down is where it's at for me and my family these days.
