bring on the fall

It shouldn't be a secret to anyone that fall is my absolute favourite season of the year. I love everything about it and for me living up North means that fall is even more special as it is the season that ushers in the cold, the hibernation and rest that I find so needed and comforting.
To me, fall means settling in, staying warm, wrapping a scarf around my neck and making foods that warm the soul. It means staying home and and finding comfort in my surroundings and it means socializing once again after a busy summer of being on the go and being outside constantly.

A few things that I am excited for as we enjoy the month of October are...
:: Thanksgiving. The perfect holiday for showing gratitude.

:: All things apple! Apple pie, apple crisp, apple sauce, apple butter (all homemade of course)

:: Walks in the woods and on the trails. Sometimes I take Noah by the hand and we walk (this can make for a long walk as he finds many things to stop and look at) or sometimes I bundle him up and put him in his stroller so that I can keep a good pace. Regardless, I just love getting myself and Noah out into the fresh air for a nature walk.

:: A trip to the cabin next week with my girlfriends, our toddlers and hubbies! Turkey dinner at the cabin, bon fires, hot chocolate, board games and rest.

:: A first time trip to Haines Alaska next week to do some salmon fishing (not me, Winslow will) with Winslow, Noah, Leanne and Jeff. I can't wait to see this part of Alaska that I have heard so much about!

:: Decorating the house for Thanksgiving and Halloween. I treated myself to some new fabric and some time at my sewing machine, and ended up with this autumn looking bunting. Winslow wasn't thrilled with the new bunting.... "more buntings?" were his words exactly. But buntings make me happy and let me feel like I am celebrating, and I believe in celebrating the little things like fall.

And how about you? What are you celebrating about fall (or Spring for those down below)?
Happy Thursday dear friends.

ps. the photos of the leaves were taken with my new 85mm 1.4 G lens that I am totally in love with. The picture of the red leaves looks like a painting to me.

  1. Fall is my favorite too! I agree on the apples! Pumpkins and leaves also make me happy. Oh, and fires and sweaters and cider and our family trip "up North"... I could go on.
    Happy Fall Dear!
