This trip home has been oh so amazing. It's been a good mix of family time, visits with friends and getting to do some of my favourite Ottawa things.
Today my dad and I took Noah skating on the canal (well actually we went skating and Noah was in his stroller). For those that don't know, Ottawa is famous for it's canal because in the winter they drain it part way and when it freezes over, it becomes a 7.8 km long skating rink. Today only part of it was open to skaters but that didn't stop us, we went for it and boy was it amazing! I felt like a child again when I laced up my skates, it brought back a flood of childhood memories for me.
The sun was beating down on us and the wind was whipping at our faces. Noah was bundled up tight and I pushed him along. I have so many fond memories of skating on the Rideau canal as a child and today I got to share that with Noah. It really felt full circle to me.
I still have many things that I want to do on my Ottawa wish list while we are here. I want to wander around the market and go to a few favourite restaurants. I really want to go up to Le Nordik Spa and do a bit of vintage shopping (even though I am running out of room in my suitcase). But if I don't get to do anything else other than do what I did today that will be okay with me. Skating along in the canal was so refreshing and invigorating...I'm satisfied enough by that.
