these days

These past few days have been a bit rough. Everyone in the family have taken turns at being sick, Winslow and I have both been busy with work and I think there is just a general consensus that we could really use a break from the "everyday". Winter is here and I am finding everything about it, a bit harder. Two little ones to dress warmly. Trying to get outside even when the wind is whipping away..... ah yes, our long winter is here and I'm just going to have to pull up my pants and face it head on.
Today was a rough day. Katia was out of sorts. Noah and I weren't feeling well either. And we received some very sad news about the tragic death of a young Mountie (who my dear friend Sarah knew personally). After attempting to and failing miserably at taking the children out for some outside play, I decided to succumb to the obvious needs of my children (to be indoors where they were warm and cozy) and made a big batch of homemade chicken soup- honestly the best decision I had made all day. I lit some candles (I wish we had a fire place or wood stove) and let the kids make a fort in the kitchen. I let go of this strange need to be "doing something" and enjoyed the sounds, smells and the feeling of being cozy and safe in our home. We needed to just be warm and to slow down. You know?
How have you been lately?
Two weeks until I have a one year old! How did that happen?

  1. I'm proud of you for letting go of the need to be busy and just being. Homemade soup, kitchen forts, candles, family time...that seems like an amazing way to spend the day
