perfect quiet

Outside, the snow is falling softly. Inside, I am listening to quiet classical music. Katia just fell asleep while nursing. Noah is napping in my bed.
The house is a mess, but I don't care. I will tackle it bit by bit, corner by corner until it is done. I have a goal to have our house decluttered in two weeks, because in two weeks it will be a certain somebody's first birthday, and I want things to be ready for that and then Christmas.
I am in a quiet Christmas mood this year. I am looking forward to a simple as possible holiday season this year. I am not in a rush to pull out all my decorations because I want to really enjoy it when it comes and not feel overwhelmed and finished with it all. Don't get me wrong, of course I have been playing my Christmas music in the car already, but I am just looking for very simple and small ways to let the holidays sneak in. Today I have a pot of homemade potpourri simmering away on the stove. Cinnamon, cloves, bay leaves, orange peel, cardamom...it smells of Christmas and I quite like it.
And how about you? Are you ready to jump on the Christmas train or are you waiting for a bit longer?
ps. look at these playful ravens that were playing outside of my house. I love how silly and fun they are. In the winter you can their swoops and wings flap more clearly. Not sure in the sounds bounce of the snow or what.

  1. I am happy that I have two weeks to visit family before the holidays! Then when I get back I can jump feet first into decorating, present making, card sending and baking! wahoo! Christmas in Faro is always so fantastic. Just the right mix of visiting and relaxing.

I love the picture of Noah asleep with his mask on!

  2. I can't get over how much snow you have already! It's surreal to me. I don't think I could avoid getting gung-ho about Christmas with all the white stuff outside my window!

So far I've listened to the Christmas music a few times and done a little bit of holiday shopping. Once my report cards and parent-teacher interviews are finished next week, then I'll start getting festive! I need to start writing Christmas cards and sending parcels. And I'd like to start baking gingerbread men soon, so that when the mood strikes, we can just pull them out of the freezer and decorate!
