clearing the clutter

I've been kicking myself lately for not bringing my camera along with me on our little day to day adventures. Every time that I am out and I see something that is worthy of a photo but don't have my camera to capture it, I scold myself. Like yesterday when Winslow, Noah and I went for a walk in the woods, oh how I wish I had brought my camera. And last night when we went to our church pancake supper. Piles and piles of fancy plates with slices of homemade pies. It would've made the perfect picture. And today when I sat down to a beautifully presented plate of sushi, again, I wish I had brought my camera.
Becoming a photographer has most definitely opened my eyes to see the beauty that is around me. It's helped me to appreciate the now and the little details that often go overlooked. On the flip side of it all though, sometimes it's nice to just enjoy a moment. To breathe it all in, without having to rummage through a camera bag or change the settings on my camera.
Moving on....
Today I made this little owl for Noah's snowsuit. I felt that he needed something to spruce up his winter suit. Something fresh and cheery. It took me less than an hour to put together and I looked through Etsy for some ideas. Have I told you how much Noey loves owls? And yes, maybe I had something to do with that.
Things here are slowly starting to feel semi Spring-ish. It's still cold here and we still have lots of snow, but the sun is staying up longer and soon enough we will be receiving more light than our neighbours down South of us.
I've been working on getting rid of old clutter in our home because at the end of April we are moving into a new home and I really want it to feel like a fresh start. Just today I threw out old course books and old essays from my university days. I hadn't looked at them in over 8 years. Why on earth did I think I would need them in the future? Baggage I tell you. Baggage of years gone by. I don't need those things to remember my young and fun loving university days. So away it all goes. And it feels good.
I also want to get on my sewing once again. I have tons of scraps starting to pile up so I think I will try to make some place mats or a table runner out of them. If any of my projects turn out well then I will let you see them.
And that's all for now folks. Just a little ramble of what's going on.
Hope your week is going along swimmingly.

  1. What a great post. I think sometimes as a blogger, I feel a little awkward bringing my camera to seemingly mundane activities. I think that people will see me as a tourist in my own town. But then I remind myself that I am making a blog/journal just for me and it'll be nice to look back on all the pretty things I've seen with my two eyes.

Other times, I'm like you--I just forget it :)

I've got big plans for spring break...they all involve emptying my closets and donating lots to the recycling bin.

  2. Funny you mention the University papers and books. We just did the same thing! I graduated nearly 10 years ago and haven't looked at any of it once.

I have been in a real spring cleaning mode with the sun coming back. Two apple boxes of toys went out of the house and a bunch of other stuff as well. I hate clutter!

    And I love the wee-owl!!
